Reducing earthquake amplification by soil improvements
Post-earthquake investigations after the 1994 Northridge earthquake in Los Angeles revealed that a localized patch of weak clay modified the overall dynamic response of the ground, probably by dynamic shear in weak clay. This mechanism is investigated here using both experimental shake table tests and numerical methods.
