Leta provides individual counselling to students living in residence. In addition to her counselling role, Leta works closely with the Housing and Residence Life Services team to develop and deliver a variety of mental health and wellness initiatives for the residence community, including Residence Life training, Mental Wellness Mentors training, and the Mental Health Champions volunteer program in residence.

Leta has extensive training and experience in the field of addiction and mental health. Prior to joining Health and Counselling Services, Leta spent nearly a decade providing substance use and mental health counselling to youth, their caregivers, and adults within a harm reduction and trauma-informed framework. Leta incorporates elements of motivational interviewing, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Strength-Based and Solution-Focused techniques into her counselling approach.

Leta is passionate about connecting with students from a curious and authentic lens. With this, she also believes that a balance of both compassion and accountability is crucial within the therapeutic process to foster personal agency and assist students to develop confidence in their capacity to adapt through change and adversity. She strives to ensure that students feel heard and understood by working collaboratively to set meaningful goals and tailoring her approach to each student’s unique needs and strengths.
