Health and Counselling Services (HCS) is a multidisciplinary healthcare facility that provides medical services and counselling services to Carleton University students, faculty and staff (if they do not have a family doctor in the community, as our doctors will not be paid if they are rostered under another physician). They may also see the walk-in doctor for episodic care.
Professional Services employees, faculty, contract instructors, and continuing employees have a dedicated physician and may use this service as their regular family doctor (if they do not have a family doctor in the community, as our doctors will not be paid if they are rostered under another physician). They may also see the walk-in doctor for episodic care.
Post-doctorate fellows, researchers, visitors (e.g., guest lecturers, athletes from visiting teams) can come to see the walk-in doctor for medical problems that are episodic in nature – a cold, an infection, an allergic reaction and so on. They cannot make one of the physicians here their regular doctor.
**If you require a follow up appointment, especially for medication renewal, we recommend booking immediately following your appointment. **
You will be charged a $20.00 fee for a prescription renewal without an appointment, as it takes practitioners time to review the chart and it is not an OHIP covered charge. A patient may still be required to return to clinic for renewals if the practitioner thinks it’s clinically needed for reassessment before refills. The physician is responsible for ensuring a medication is clinically appropriate which might require an appointment.
Students can access medical, lab, and counselling appointments between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, by calling 613-520-6674.
An appointment is necessary for most visits and suggested for the following:
- Counselling & Mental Health Management
- STI Testing (Non-symptomatic) and Results
- Birth Control
- Prescription Renewals (please plan ahead)
- Minor Dermatology assessment & procedures
- Travel and Vaccine Management
*** Please note we can properly assess only one presenting issue, each visit. ***
For an in-clinic visit, please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment. Remember to bring your Carleton card and health card. If you are more than 15 minutes late, the appointment will be rescheduled for another time and the cancellation policy will be in effect.
