Primary field of Specialization: Microbiology and Immunology Research Interests: Over the past 35 years, I have worked on a variety of emerging infectious diseases from Mosquito-borne viruses to HIV/AIDS in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical, Academic and Government sectors of the UK, USA and Canada, . My most recent research interests have revolved around how to create a safe and effective HIV vaccine, using the SIV/macaque model. Though we have tried a variety of approaches to develop HIV Vaccines, from subunit vaccines to attenuated live virus vaccines, none have resulted in vaccines that are both highly safe and highly effective. However, even a partially effective vaccine can teach us much about what immune responses correlate to the observed protection. The approaches used to study these immune responses have been as simple as serum based neutralizing assays to whole genome based transcriptomics
