Please join us for ‘On Coalitions’, a Cultural Transfers Workshop featuring short talks by Professor of Art History Tammer El-Sheikh (York University) and ICSLAC PhD candidate Hiba Burqan. Their talks will be followed by a dialogue and a Q&A with attendees.

Cultural Transfers is an ongoing workshop series founded by the Centre for Transnational Cultural Analysis (CTCA) where upper year Cultural Mediations PhD students share their research in dialogue with faculty research. The theme of this workshop is coalition building in a transnational context. Burqan will discuss 7ajar, an annual pedagogical workshop that brings together art and designed students from Palestine and beyond to learn from the land, art and community. El-Sheikh will speak about visual artist and activist Jamelie Hassan and multidisciplinary artist Jayce Salloum with respect to their coalition building efforts across Canadian cities and in the SWANA region, with an emphasis on Beirut, Cairo, the West Bank, and Gaza.

This event has been organized by the Centre for Transnational Cultural Analysis and the Ruth and Mark Phillips Professorship in Cultural Mediations.
