This past December the United Nations High Commission for Refugees held its first Global Refugee Forum. At the forum, Canada made history when it included a refugee advisor, Mustafa Alio, as a formal member of the Canadian delegation.

However, refugee participation doesn’t stop there, as LERRN Director James Milner discussed in a podcast created by Carleton University’s Department of Political Science.

Milner says there must be inclusion policies where “refugees are included right at the beginning. It’s not just us deciding the work we’re going to do then we bring refugees to help us do the work that we’ve decided is important.”

LERRN is committed to the participation of refugees in all stages of research and policy.
