Akalya Atputharajah is a doctoral candidate in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa, in the International Development and Globalization Studies program. Her interests include migration, diaspora, development and more. Before her placement as a student researcher with LERRN, Atputharajah worked at a women’s advocacy NGO in Accra Ghana in 2013, and returned in 2016 to work at an NGO that helped female-headed households in the northern region. Currently, Atputharajah is a research assistant at the Diversity Institute, at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management. In 2019, Atputharajah’s research placement with LERRN investigated the localization of humanitarian action in Kenya.”
