Eliza Bateman is the Senior Research Analyst at the Refugee Hub, working on legal scholarship, policy analysis and research initiatives. Eliza also leads projects of the Refugee Law Research Team. She joined the Hub after finishing her PhD in Law at McGill University in 2018. Before moving to Canada, Eliza worked in the social justice sector in Australia, first as senior legal advisor for the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, and then as senior lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid. She is passionate about social justice and human rights and has advocated for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers as a lawyer and scholar. Eliza has a Ph.D. and LL.M. from McGill and writes in the areas of international human rights, feminist theory and legal theory. Eliza is fond of excellent coffee and creative writing. She follows politics across the world with an anxious intensity that she tries to diffuse by cooking and walking the dog.
