Professor Jennifer Bond is Founder and Managing Director of the University of Ottawa Refugee Hub and Chair of the Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (GRSI), a partnership between the Government of Canada, the UNHCR, the Open Society Foundations, the Giustra Foundation, the Shapiro Foundation, and the University of Ottawa. The GRSI works with government and community stakeholders to support the adoption and implementation of community-based refugee sponsorship schemes and is active in over 20 countries. Previously, Professor Bond served in the office of Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship as Special Advisor on the country’s Syrian Refugee Initiative. She also co-founded the Refugee Assistance Project and the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, served with UNHCR in Damascus, Syria and has published, consulted, and lectured extensively about a variety of refugee related topics.
Professor Bond has been awarded the International Commission of Jurist’s prestigious Tarnopolsky Award and appointed to the Order of Ontario for her national and international contributions to refugee protection.
