Having worked internationally on humanitarian and development issues, Simmi’s work and passion have taken her across the world and back. Her work has taken her to prisons in Ethiopia (International Committee of the Red Cross 2016), Refugee Camps in Lebanon (with Palestinian and Syrian Refugees, SHEILD 2014), Tribal Migrant communities in India ( Fellowship 2010) and migrant workers in the Philippines (CIDA internship 2006).

She is currently based in Ottawa, working with Oxfam Canada, where she manages humanitarian programs in Nepal, Sudan and Tanzania, where activities with people include water & sanitation support, gender & safety for men, women, boys and girls and livelihood support for refugees and internally displaced persons.

Simmi studied human rights and political philosophy at Carleton University (2007) and went on to complete her Masters in Migration Studies at the University of Sussex (2009).  As the proud daughter of immigrants from India, she speaks English, French and Hindi and is interested in issues of migration and human rights. In her spare time, she rides her bike, skiis, runs and breakdances.
