Kazhal Mohammadi

PhD student

Kazhal Mohammadi is a first year PhD sociology student at Carleton. She graduated from York University’s sociology BA in 2015, and MA in 2016. Her Research Review Paper (RRP) titled “Identity politics among diasporic Kurds: the Europeanization and internationalization of the Kurdish National Struggle”, which investigated the role of the Kurdish diaspora in the internationalization of the Kurdish struggle.

Her areas of interest include the notions of statelessness and nationalism, transnationalism and Diaspora, recognition processes, resistance and activism, citizenship and claims, and the migration and settlement experiences. Her current research is looking at power and identity formations among immigrant youth, with a focus on the Kurdish youth in Canada and their perceptions of home and homeland.
