Materials As Machines Lab

Welcome to the Materials as Machines Lab

The Materials as Machines Lab located within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is a cutting-edge research facility dedicated to researching and developing novel materials and their applications. We are particularly focused on smart materials that can respond to external stimuli and exhibit machine-like behaviour.

Our Research Interests:

  1. Innovative Material Design – Researching and developing materials with unique properties such as self-healing, shape memory, and responsive behaviour.
  2. Material Analysis and Modelling – Testing and characterizing material properties and modelling complex, non-linear polymer systems.
  3. Manufacturing Optimization – Optimizing manufacturing and perfecting processing methods to fabricate high-performance materials.
  4. Advanced Material Integration and Application – Collaborating with industry partners to integrate novel materials in practical applications, like smart prosthetics and artificial muscles.
