Hi! My name is Chanelle and I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Mental Health with a minor in Psychology in June 2019. During my undergrad, I developed a strong interest in public health topics surrounding substance use, substance-related harms, and mental health, but was not quite sure where these interests would take me after I graduated. I later completed a Graduate Diploma in Population Health Risk Assessment and Management at the University of Ottawa in June 2020, during which I completed a practicum at Health Canada in the Controlled Substances Division while working at the Public Health Agency of Canada for the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Journal. My experiences over these past few years have reinforced my passion for both science and public health, making a Master's of science degree in Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa the perfect next step in my career. I hope to grow within the Public Health Agency of Canada as an Epidemiologist or Policy Analyst, with a focus on psychiatric health. My free time is usually spent cooking, baking, online shopping, or playing volleyball!
I strongly encourage you to take this time to foster your existing connections as well as to create new ones. Growing your network is important for your career growth, whether it be to enter the workforce or to find strong references in academia. Reach out to peers, professors, managers, or even a family friend. There are always new connections to be made, so don’t be afraid to reach out!
