As part of Carleton University’s Science Café series, Sonia Chiasson of the School of Computer Science will present Children and Online Safety.

When: Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Sunnyside Branch of the Ottawa Public Library, 1049 Bank Street, Ottawa
Info: This event is free and open to the public.

Media are invited to attend the event.

In this talk, Chiasson will present research that she has conducted over the last few years about children and online safety. She will discuss parent and children’s concerns, as well as mental models relating to online privacy and security threats.

Chiasson will explore several educational tools that help children understand online risks and learn how to protect themselves. Her team has created and user-tested an interactive ebook for children ages six to eight, as well as online comics and a game for tweens to teach critical thinking skills relating to online behaviour.

The Science Café series is organized by the Faculty of Science at Carleton University to discuss relevant issues facing our society and how science can help solve real-world problems. Meet some of our award-winning faculty members and graduate students as they share their excitement about science with the community. For more information, visit: Science.carleton.ca/science-cafe
