Carleton Stands in Solidarity with Indigenous Communities

Carleton University is profoundly saddened by the discovery of 182 unmarked graves close to the former St. Eugene’s Mission School near Cranbrook, B.C., that was reported by the Lower Kootenay Band of the Ktunaxa Nation.
It comes after the Cowessess First Nation revealed last week an estimated 751 unmarked graves on the site of the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan. The remains of 215 Indigenous children were discovered in May at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc land.
The Carleton community stands in solidarity with Indigenous communities, students, faculty and staff as we remember the survivors of the residential school system, and with the families of those whose children never returned to them.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic finding, and campus flags remain lowered to honour the spirit of each child.
