Carleton University's David Hornsby Joins Board of Directors of Volunteer Ottawa

June 3, 2021

When David Hornsby was asked to join the board at Volunteer Ottawa recently, he immediately saw the potential for collaboration.

“Volunteerism, like education, is an anchor of our community,” says Hornsby, who joined Carleton in 2018 as associate vice-president (Teaching and Learning).

“It’s exciting to take two anchor organizations and bring them closer together to talk about how we can make Ottawa a better place.”

Volunteer Ottawa is an organizing hub and leader for the non-profit sector in Ottawa.

“It’s an honour to be asked to serve on the board, as well as a chance to live my ethos of service,” adds Hornsby, who has served on a number of boards, including the World University Service of Canada.

Through this new role, Hornsby hopes to find opportunities for Carleton students, faculty and staff to engage in volunteer activities in the community, one of the pillars of Carleton’s Strategic Integrated Plan: Serve Ottawa – Serve the World.

“My hope is to bring life to our strategic plan while providing benefit to our community,” says Hornsby.
