Dr. Howard Nemiroff Appointed Interim Dean of the Sprott School of Business
Carleton University President Benoit-Antoine Bacon and Provost Jerry Tomberlin have announced that Dr. Dana Brown has decided to step down as Dean of the Sprott School of Business, effective Sept. 1, 2023. Brown will take her accrued administrative leave over the next several months, which will allow her to pursue new ideas and interests, before returning to Sprott as a Full Professor.
Effective Sept. 5, 2023, Dr. Howard Nemiroff will take on the role of Dean on an interim basis until June 30, 2025.

Nemiroff is currently the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, in the Sprott School of Business.
“Howard’s extensive experience and dedication to the student experience make him well-positioned to lead the School in this significant leadership role,” said Provost Tomberlin.
Nemiroff is an Associate Professor of Finance. He completed undergraduate studies at Western University and holds a master’s degree in economics and a PhD in finance from Concordia University. Before taking on the role of Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, he served as the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Studies in Sprott for 10 years where he led continuous improvement initiatives for Sprott’s undergraduate programs and served as the chair of the Senate Committee on Curriculum, Admission, and Studies Policy (SCCASP).
“I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Dean Dana Brown for the impressive leadership in several key areas that have elevated the Sprott School of Business in many ways since she took on the role in 2019,” said Tomberlin.
Under Dean Brown’s leadership, Sprott has increased research outputs and funding, adopted an updated strategic plan, moved into the beautiful Nicol building, rolled out updated branding, established the Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub, and increased international partnerships. In addition, Sprott has implemented several new academic programs and streams, including the Master of Finance, Online MBA, Master of Applied Business Analytics, and an undergraduate business analytics concentration.
