Deidre Butler

Butler is the Director for the Max and Tessie Zelikovitz Centre for Jewish Studies, as well as Academic Chairs of both the Developing Leadership Program and the Centre for Holocaust Education and Scholarship (both within the Zelikovitz Centre). Her areas of expertise include contemporary and historical antisemitism; antisemitism in Canada; antisemitism on university campuses; and Jewish historical and contemporary perspectives on Israel and Zionism.

Timea Spitka

Spitka is available to discuss the public and political divisions in Canada after October 7 and the war on Gaza. She can also discuss the consequences of October 7, the aftermath on Israeli and Palestinian realities, protection of Israeli and Palestinian civilians, the genocide and ethnic cleansing debates, the Board of Peace and where we are nationally and internationally regarding the conflict.

She has written a book entitled National and International Civilian Protection Strategies in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, and she is working on a new book, Canadian Foreign Policy after October 7th and War on Gaza.

Spitka conducts research on intervention in violent conflicts, gender, Global Responsibility to Protect (R2P), children in conflict and human security. Her research is focused on violent and non-violent conflicts in Europe and the Middle East.

Spitka has worked on conflict resolution and peacebuilding projects in the Middle East and Europe. She has worked for several international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, Rand Corporation, Oxfam and the European Union.

Sucharov is available to discuss Israeli-Palestinian relations, Jewish politics, emotions and international relations. At Carleton, she has developed courses in Israeli-Palestinian relations, op-ed writing and social media engagement, and graphic novels and political identity. Her many op-ed pieces have appeared in Haaretz, The Forward, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, The Ottawa Citizen, The Daily Beast and Huffington Post. In 2019, she won the Faculty of Public Affairs award for Excellence in Public Commentary.
