Social Media

Beginning July 20 and lasting through the summer, the @Carleton_U social username/handles will be transitioning from their current accounts operated by the OVPSE (Strategic Initiatives) to accounts operated by the DUC. The OVPSE (Strategic Initiatives) will continue to run student focused accounts under the handle @MyCarletonU. Visit this page for continued updates on the transition.

Background

@Carleton_U Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok accounts have functioned as the primary/flagship social platforms for Carleton University. These accounts currently operate through the Office of the Vice-President, Students and Enrolment (OVPSE – Strategic Initiatives) and have a student focus.

With the launch of Carleton’s Reputation Enhancement Project, these flagship accounts have been tasked with reaching audiences beyond students, including influencers, alumni, partners, and prospective students. To accomplish this goal, DUC and OVPSE (Strategic Initiatives) will be transferring the usernames/handles of the accounts. Student focused accounts operated by OVPSE (Strategic Initiatives) will be under the @MyCarletonU handle, while flagship accounts operated by DUC will be under the @Carleton_U handle. The accounts are not being transferred, only the handles. This means there will be no change to current subscribers/followers, and no action will need to be taken if you currently follow the existing OVPSE (Strategic Initiatives) and DUC accounts.

Goal

The @Carleton_U accounts will play an active role in the Reputation Enhancement Project by supporting brand awareness growth externally through our flagship social media channels, while developing reputation champions internally. Foster relationships with stakeholders across campus regarding the role of social media and how our platforms interact with each other and our diverse audiences.
