CanadaHelps Giving Report 2021The fourth Giving Report by CanadaHelps, released in April 2021, shows how and where online giving accelerated at record rates in 2020 even as total giving in Canada likely declined to 2016 levels. Produced in collaboration with Environics Analytics, which provided demographic, financial, psychographic and behavioural trends using CanadaHelps data, “The Giving Report 2021” includes data and analysis about:

  • record online donations to help charities address the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • higher-than-average growth in online donations to charities working with Indigenous peoples and to health and social-service charities; and
  • spikes in giving for international crises, such as the Australian bushfires and the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752.

The charitable sector employs approximately 10% of the Canadian workforce. In 2020, 1.1 million Canadians donated via CanadaHelps, representing about 3% of Canada’s household population, a good sample size to measure online giving in Canada. Download the full report from CanadaHelps.
