Four students flew from Canada to Johannesburg as part of an MPNL online course, Philanthropy and the Sustainable Development Goals, during which they conducted field work with their South African classmates. The course was run in conjunction with the Centre for African Philanthropy and Social Investment at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University).

“I was inspired to take the course after learning about how African philanthropy is redefining philanthropy and is rooted in the philosophy of ‘ubuntu’,” says MPNL student Katelyn James. “Ubuntu means ‘I am because you are,’ a way of being that’s intrinsic to cultures across Africa.”
