New Pedestrian Crossing Coming to Campus Avenue
To improve safety for everyone on campus, the stop sign at the Richcraft Hall pedestrian crossing on Campus Ave. will soon be replaced with a designated pedestrian crossover featuring pedestrian-activated flashing amber lights.
When the lights are activated, motorists and cyclists must come to a complete stop, yield to pedestrians, and remain stopped until pedestrians have fully crossed the roadway. Passing a vehicle stopped at a pedestrian crossover is prohibited under Ontario traffic laws. Failure to yield can result in fines and demerit points.
Please watch for new signage and be prepared to stop when approaching the crossing. This upgrade is part of Carleton’s ongoing commitment to campus safety.

At Ontario pedestrian crossovers, drivers must stop and remain stopped until pedestrians have crossed the entire roadway and safely reached the sidewalk. This rule applies whenever a pedestrian is crossing or waiting to cross at a designated pedestrian crossover.
Campus Safety Services enforces Carleton University’s Parking and Traffic Regulations. Failure to obey a sign or traffic control device on campus can result in a $75 fine.
