Paul Simms

  • Mackenzie, Carleton University
  • 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1S 5B6

Simms undertakes research to support sustainable management and reclamation of vast mining residuals (tailings) impoundments, including those that use permafrost aggradation to immobilize tailings in the far north. Simms is co-leader of the large infrastructure project ICELEFT, which aims to outfit an existing large test-pit at Carleton with freezing capability, transforming it into a large “sandbox”,  that will enable rigorous and accelerated testing of potential permafrost adaptation methods at a large scale.
