Dear members of the Carleton community,
I would like to thank Carleton Board Chair Greg Farrell and the Board of Governors for entrusting me with leading the university as Interim President and Vice-Chancellor.
It is an honour to take on this responsibility and contribute to this outstanding university. During my time as Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and Dean of the Sprott School of Business I learned much about what makes our smart, caring community unique in Canada, and I look forward to sharing and continuing to build a remarkable story.
As President and Vice-Chancellor, my responsibility is to ensure that Carleton continues to challenge what’s possible in teaching, learning and research, and provide the type of student experience we are renowned for.
Four years ago, we launched our Strategic Integrated Plan, an ambitious vision for the future that builds on Carleton’s strengths and student-centric, community-engaged values. In a very short time, we have made remarkable progress on its three strategic directions:
- Share Knowledge, Shape the Future
- Serve Ottawa, Serve the World
- Strive for Wellness, Strive for Sustainability
Together we have soared, achieving a marked increase in research funding and student success, an elevated national profile and reputation, a refreshed campus master plan, and new and refreshed facilities. Carleton has distinguished itself with considerable progress in sustainability, community engagement, Indigenous initiatives, as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon’s exceptional leadership and service over the past five years has left a legacy of excellence for our future success and we wish him all the best in his new role as President and Vice-Chancellor at UBC. It is with great humility that I assume this interim role and I promise that working with our team, we will preserve and build on that legacy as we prepare for the arrival of a new President and Vice-Chancellor.
