Procurement Services has become aware of recent reports of fraudulent activity on Procurement Cards. To keep Procurement Cardholder accounts safe, we would like to share some of the best practices for card security:
• If you receive a request by email to purchase items (e.g., gift cards on behalf of someone you recognize), verify the sender’s email address and contact them by phone or by sending them an email to their Carleton email address to confirm the request is valid before making the purchase. If you do not recognize the sender, do not reply, advise ITS Service Desk of the email, and delete it.
• If your card is declined, lost, or stolen, call Procurement Services at ext. 3622 immediately to reduce the risk of fraud.
• Check your credit card transactions regularly. If you spot unknown charges, call Procurement Services immediately.
• Don’t leave your Pcard unattended.
• Never share your PIN with anyone and do not write it next to or on your card.
• Don’t share confidential information over the phone or in an email. Remember, Scotiabank will never call or send you an email asking you to provide your full card number or password.
