To celebrate Human Rights Day on Dec. 8, the Steering Committee of the Canadian Section of the Scholars at Risk Network (SAR), along with MPs Gary Anandasangaree (Scarborough Rouge Park), Peter Kent (Thornhill) and Murray Rankin (Victoria), hosted a day of events on academic freedom at Parliament Hill and the University of Ottawa.

Carleton’s Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Peter Ricketts, History Prof. Andrew Johnston, student SAR committee representative Scott Ong, and staff member Norah Vollmer attended the panel discussion which featured Concordia Prof. Homa Hoodfar who was recently imprisoned in Iran for her academic work. Dr. Hoodfar and a group of other scholars spoke about academic freedom.

Carleton’s Law Prof. Melanie Adrian has been a key force behind establishing the Canadian chapter of SAR.
