Annual Conference of the Magna Charta Observatory, 16 and 17 October 2019. This is a joint initiative from the Magna Charta Observatory and Scholars at Risk, hosted by McMaster University.

The focus will be on academic freedom and the responsibilities which universities have for helping to achieve the UN sustainable development goals, particularly those relevant to sustainable cities. The lead organisers have invited SAR Canada to play a prominent role in the event by contributing to the program and inviting members to participate. Given the growing challenges faced by universities, we welcome the opportunity to host such conference in North America for the first time and hope that some of you will be able to join us.

More details of the conference can be found at http://www.magna-charta.org/news/31st-anniversary-of-the-magna-charta-universitatum-introduction. In addition to attending the sessions and workshops, university representatives will be able to sign the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU) established in Bologna in 1988. Currently almost 900 universities from 88 countries have joined this community. Details of how to apply to sign can be found at http://www.magna-charta.org/magna-charta-universitatum/sign-the-magna-charta.

Information about the programme and the registration will soon be available on the Magna Charta Observatory website (http://www.magna-charta.org/).
