We provide the service to external universities/colleges, non-profits, government agencies, and/or private businesses.
- What types of exams do you handle?

We handle both computer-based and paper-based exams, including any necessary software set-up.
- Do you accommodate students with disabilities?

Yes, we offer accommodated exams for students with disabilities. This includes adaptable furniture and specialized software such as Kurzweil, Dragon Naturally Speaking, JAWS, Inspire and more.
- What sort of training have staff at McIntyre Exam Centre (MEC) received?

All front-line staff at MEC have received training in AODA standards, harassment and violence, as well as training in the use of adaptive technology and furniture. Front-line staff are available to assist students and proctors during office hours, as needed.
- Can you arrange scribes or readers for students who need them?

Absolutely, we can arrange scribes or readers for students who require such services during exams.
- Do you have rooms for quiet and reduced capacity exams?

Yes, we have rooms suitable for quiet exams with reduced capacity. We can accommodate no more than five (5), ten (10), and 15 writers;
- Do you offer group exams?

Yes, we can facilitate group exams in a quiet location or a dedicated computer lab; Group rates are available, please contact us for a quote.
- Do you offer private room bookings?

Yes, we provide Private room bookings for exams that require individual testing environments.
- What if I want to reschedule my exam?

An exam can be rescheduled subject to your institution’s policy. Submit your request in writing to ExternalExams@carleton.ca at least 2 weeks before your originally scheduled exam date. For any late rescheduling requests, our cancellation policy will apply.
- What if I want to cancel my exam?

Up to 50% of the exam fee can be withheld if cancellation is made less than 3 business days before the scheduled exam date.
- One of my accommodations includes supervised breaks - how does that work?

MEC has designated quiet spaces at, or near, each of our two writing locations. If you are entitled to a supervised break, one of our proctors will escort you to the designated break spot and will remain with you as you enjoy your break.
- I am allowed a snack break - how do I access this?
-
Please leave your snack with the proctoring staff when they bring you into the writing space. When you would like to take your snack break, please alert one of our proctors and they will assist with this.
