1. Purpose
Social media can be a powerful and effective method in communicating Carleton’s brand and mission while advancing the values and reputation of the institution. Our audiences increasingly rely on social media to learn about the university, our programming, research and innovations. Carleton supports the use of social media and encourages faculties, schools, departments and units to have an official presence on third-party social media platforms for communications with their stakeholders and other audiences.
Carleton will make efforts to develop and maintain the quality and accountability of university social media accounts. As a social media account manager or account coordinator representing your faculty, department or unit, it is your responsibility to do so in a manner that brings forth the university’s values in a clear and consistent manner. These guidelines will help you do so.
When using social media accounts, refrain from disclosing any Carleton information, research, or content that has not been directly authorized for release. Familiarize yourself with relevant university policies and provincial and federal regulations. It is also required that all who use a university social media account familiarize themselves with and follow the university brand guidelines.
