Floatation Test – Feb 6th
The hydropneumatics, enclosure, and floatation system members successfully performed a floatation and balance test with the Whale Achoo system at the water channel in Mackenzie Building on February 6th, 2025. The goal of this test was to validate the system layout needed to prevent the system from tipping or drifting determined through statics analysis, Proteus simulation, and static scale balancing results. Videos above in descending order show the fully assembled Whale Achoo system (electronics and pump enclosures contain substitute masses) in still water, and being rocked and tilted. The image on the bottom left shows Anastasiia Kot, the floatation system lead, standing in the water channel with the Whale Achoo system. The image on the bottom right shows, from left to to right, Ahmad El Ferri, Angus Buckmaster, and Jeffrey Gu, the nozzle system, enclosure, and hydro system leads respectively, standing outside the channel behind the system.
