Going out
Date rape drugs (commonly called “roofies”) cause sedation, amnesia and a feeling of extreme intoxication. They affect victims usually within 10 minutes of ingestion and render them helpless.
To protect yourself, follow these rules:
- Never leave your drink unattended. Get a friend to watch your drink if you have to go to the bathroom.
- If you feel unusually drunk for what you’ve consumed, you may have been slipped a drug. Get to a safe place immediately.
- Don’t accept a drink unless it’s coming directly from the bartender.
- Some “roofies” have a bitter taste while others can turn a clear drink blue. If you notice anything unusual about your drink, toss it to be safe.
If you or a friend feels dizzy, confused, or have other unexplained symptoms, get to a safe place immediately. Call the police, a friend, a family member, the Campus Safety Services, or 911.
