Pauline Rankin
Associate Vice-President (Research and International)
L. Pauline Rankin serves as Associate Vice-President (Research and International). She reports to the Vice-President (Research & International) and is part of the senior management group responsible for advancing Carleton’s international research agenda
Dr. Rankin has extensive experience with international development projects, offering strategic advice and training in Russia, Ukraine, China, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Tunisia, South Africa, Turkey, and throughout the South Caucasus. She currently serves as gender consultant on a Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development-funded project, Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine.
She holds a PhD in Political Science from Carleton University and has been a faculty member at Carleton since 1996. Most recently, she held the position of Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Affairs) for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She is a former Director of the School of Canadian Studies and also a former Director of the Pauline Jewett Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies.
Dr. Rankin researches and teaches in the area of gender and politics. She is co-author of Politics As If Women Mattered: A Political Analysis of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women (1993), editor of a 2004 collection on gender and public policy (published in Ukrainian), and co-editor of two forthcoming collections – one on sex and gender activism in Canada and the other on gender equality measurement. Her current research activity includes an International Development Research Centre-funded project on women and artisanal mining in the Great Lakes region of Africa.
