On Sunday, September 27, 2015 the READ Initiative will host the 3rd Annual Walk N Roll. Teams can walk, jog, or wheel through a designated route around the Carleton University campus. This event provides a fundraising opportunity for the many clubs in Ottawa providing sport and recreation opportunities for persons with disabilities. At the same time our Carleton community has the opportunity to learn about Paralympic Sport and a chance to participate or volunteer with over 15 local organizations.
This year READ will also be inviting the Carleton community to participate and help raise funds to support the READ Innovation Centre, developing innovative solutions to accessibility issues identified by persons with disabilities on campus and in the greater community. We invite groups on campus to enter a team, raise funds to support READ activities and learn about the thriving Paralympic sport community in Ottawa. If you are interested in forming a team, contact dean.mellway@carleton.ca
Plans are still being finalized but we envision that this year’s event will also include a demonstration of wheelchair rugby or wheelchair basketball as well as an opportunity to meet the Paralympic athletes who will have represented Ottawa at the Para Pan Am Games this summer in Toronto.
I hope that you can join us and help make Walk and Roll 2015 the best yet!!
