A Bursary Appeal and Reassessment Request Form must be completed and supported by sufficient information and documentation. All appeal decisions made by the Bursary Committee are final and are subject to the availability of funds.

Please email the Awards Office by the deadline dates listed on the form to arrange a personal interview for reviewing your request and the new financial information or extenuating circumstances.  

Undergraduate students participating in other Carleton international experience opportunities (e.g. mandatory international experience requirement, in-person/virtual international internship or courses taught abroad) will be considered for bursary funding by completing the General Undergraduate Bursary application (on Carleton Central).

How to apply:

The General Undergraduate Bursary application for the Fall/Winter session is available on Carleton Central from September to October 31st. The application asks students to briefly describe their international experience opportunity (include start/end dates, destination and an estimate of the costs). The Awards Office will assess the application for any applicable bursary awards.

Students undertaking a mandatory international experience requirement (IER) who have not applied for a bursary by the October 31 deadline should contact the Awards Office.

Undergraduate students participating in an international experience opportunity during the Summer term will be considered for bursary funding by completing the Summer Bursary application on Carleton Central. The Summer Bursary application is available from May to July 15th.

Note: The intent of the bursary is to supplement, not replace, a student’s primary source of funding. Bursary recipients will be required to demonstrate financial need; awarding of bursaries is subject to the availability of funds.

Students participating in an official/formal Carleton Exchange will be considered for bursary funding by completing the CU Outgoing Exchange Bursary Application (on Carleton Central). Information on Carleton scholarships and bursaries will also be shared on the Pre-Departure Orientation.

How to apply:

Undergraduate students participating in the Outgoing Exchange Program will have access to complete the CU Outgoing Exchange Bursary Application from April to June 30th.

Students who have not applied by the application deadline may still be considered for a bursary by completing the General Undergraduate Bursary application (available on Carleton Central from September to October 31).

The Alfred and Isabel Bader Undergraduate Student Travel Award is awarded to undergraduate students in good academic standing who have demonstrated an interest in travelling away from Carleton University to present papers and posters, or to pursue other research travel pertinent to their studies.

Established by The Métis Nation of Ontario through the Métis Training Initiatives and awarded on the basis of financial need to registered undergraduate students in any faculty or school at Carleton University who are verified Métis citizens of the Métis Nation of Ontario. The value of this bursary will vary based on financial need and availability of funds.

Applicants will be required to consent to a citizenship verification check to confirm eligibility for these awards. To apply for this bursary, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) will provide Carleton University students a letter to verify citizenship. Please include the verification letter with your bursary application.

Eligibility:

• Undergraduate students, enrolled full-time or part-time, who are verified Métis citizens of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO)
• Métis citizenship verification check to confirm eligibility for these awards is required
• Must have demonstrated financial need and must meet OSAP’s Ontario Residency requirements

Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Citizenship Verification:

• Complete the MNO Bursary Citizenship Verification Form by creating an account (This will involve providing key demographic information and consent to have citizenship status checked by the MNO’s 3rd party Registry)
• MNO will provide students at Carleton University with a letter to verify citizenship – Please submit your citizenship confirmation letter with this application.

Awarded annually to undergraduate students studying Italian or students of Italian descent who are in good academic standing and in need of financial assistance. Endowed in 1997 by the National Congress of Italian Canadians Foundation (Eastern Ontario and Outaouais District) which is associated with The National Congress of Italian Canadians (National Capital District) to encourage and assist students and to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Giovanni Caboto’s landing on Canadian soil. Award recipients must meet OSAP’s Ontario Residency requirements.  Selection for the awards will be made in consultation with the National Congress of Italian Canadians Foundation.

Awarded annually, to undergraduate students in good academic standing and demonstrated financial need who are studying Italian or are enrolled in courses related to Italian and Italian-Canadian Studies such as language, literature, culture and history, or other related subjects. Endowed in 2019 by the National Congress of Italian Canadians Foundation (Eastern Ontario and Outaouais District) with the co-operation of The National Congress of Italian Canadians (National Capital District) to encourage and assist students. This endowment was established in memory of Giovanna Panico, a highly esteemed professor at Carleton University. Professor Panico had an unwavering commitment to the appreciation and celebration of the Italian language and culture in Ottawa-Gatineau.

The Ministry has allocated funding to create the Indigenous Student Bursary to provide direct support to indigenous students with financial need. Indigenous peoples include First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

The Government of Ontario has allocated funding to create a bursary fund for First Generation Students through the Ministry’s Access and Opportunities Strategy. This is a unique opportunity to recognize and provide direct support to students with financial need who are the first in their families to attend college or university.

Please note, there are a limited number of these bursaries available.

Eligible students are attending first entry programs of study and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. The application will be available as of the first day of Fall classes. Current registered undergraduate students may complete the General Undergraduate Bursary application in order to be considered and assessed for available donor bursary awards. Bursaries may be awarded to students who are in receipt of some type of student loan funding from either government student financial assistance programs (OSAP or other province) or from a financial institution and continue to demonstrate financial need in order to finance their studies. Complete and submit your application by Oct. 31 (late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered).

Value $7,000. Awarded annually to an outstanding student entering the Bachelor of Humanities, Bachelor of Arts in Greek and Roman Studies, or the Bachelor of Arts in Religion in the College of the Humanities (or any additional undergraduate degree program in the College of Humanities) at Carleton University.

Eligible students must demonstrate a strong academic background and participation in extra-curricular activities. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person) and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Students who study abroad as part of any undergraduate degree program within the College of the Humanities are eligible to hold this bursary in their year abroad. This bursary is renewable for up to four years. Endowed in 2009 by Pamela and Richard Joho to honour their commitment to a classical education. Application is required.

Value $5,000. Awarded annually to Indigenous students in demonstrated financial need who are entering any full-time undergraduate program of study at Carleton University. Application is required. Eligible students will demonstrate financial need and resilience in their pursuit of post-secondary education. Preference will be given to those who have limited or no other avenues of funding or support in their pursuit of post-secondary education. This award may be continued for 3 years of full-time enrollment provided the students remain in good academic standing and continue to demonstrate financial need. Endowed in 2021 through the generosity of The Joyce Family Foundation. Application is required.
