We have asked a couple of our recent grads to tell us about their PAPM experience before they go off to bigger and better things. Adam Kouri is graduating in June 2020 with a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management with a Specialization in Communication and Policy Studies Concentrating in Strategic Public Opinion.
One thing that I found invaluable about my undergraduate experience was the PAPM community. Since the program is smaller, I became close not only with the students in my cohort but also students that were younger and older than myself. These students were mentors for me, study buddies, and, now I’m sure, friends for life. I really felt supported and enabled to succeed at every step of the degree.
When I decided to go to Carleton, I knew I was interested in policy-making and Ottawa seemed like the logical place to go. I was blown away by the opportunities that were available to engage with public policy, beginning in first-year. Through programs facilitated by PAPM and the University, I was able to volunteer for an MP on Parliament Hill and take on different co-op jobs in a range of policy areas that interested me. These experiences helped me to place my learning from the classroom in a professional policy-making setting and cement my interests and career goals.
After my graduation I will be heading to the University of Toronto to pursue my J.D.
