The CDCC Volunteer Program

The CDCC Volunteer Program offers meaningful opportunities for individuals to contribute to a vibrant arts and community hub in the heart of downtown Ottawa. Volunteers play an essential role in supporting events, community programming, and the preservation of our historic venue. 

We are currently recruiting multiple Event Ambassadors to elevate the centre’s guest experience at events. 

CDCC Volunteer Event Ambassadors

Location: Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, 290 Lisgar Street, Ottawa

Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre is a community-focused arts and performance facility operated by Carleton University. We host concerts, rehearsals, lectures, cultural events, and community programming throughout the year. The CDCC Volunteer Program offers meaningful opportunities for individuals to contribute to a vibrant arts and community hub in the heart of downtown Ottawa. Volunteers play an essential role in supporting events, community programming, and the preservation of our historic venue.

We are currently recruiting Event Ambassadors to elevate the centre’s guest experience at events. As part of our Front-of-House Volunteer Team, you will help create a warm, professional, and inclusive experience for all visitors. Your role supports the smooth delivery of arts and community events while ensuring guests feel welcomed, informed, and cared for from the moment they arrive. The main roles and responsibilities for the role will include (but are not limited to):

Act as a “Pillar of Information”: Be visibly available throughout the CDCC to assist guests with wayfinding, directions, and questions. Maintain strong knowledge of the building layout, event locations, and guest services to provide clear, confident information as needed.

Support Guest Flow & Respond to Visitor Needs: Help ensure smooth movement before events, during intermission, and after performances by proactively routing guests, staying attentive and people-focused, anticipating questions, and offering support to visitors of all ages and abilities.

Assist with Safety & Emergency Support: Remain alert and responsive to guest needs, promptly report hazards or concerns, and support staff in implementing safety and emergency procedures.

WHAT YOU BRING

– Friendly, welcoming attitude and an interest in supporting community arts events.

– Comfortable interacting with diverse audiences and providing basic guidance in English (additional languages a plus!).

– Able to stand or move around for periods of time (accommodations available).

– Reliable, punctual, and willing to follow staff direction.

– Able to work collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

SCHEDULING AND COMMITMENT

– Flexible shifts based on event needs, with most shifts lasting 4-5 hours and taking place on evenings and weekends.

– Minimum commitment of 2 shifts per month (pending final event schedule and volunteer shift availability)

– The full commitment is for a six-month term, with an opportunity to extend.
