Luz Adriana Puentes wins Michael Bozozuk Award

The Ottawa Geotechnical group has awarded the 2012 (36th) Michael Bozozuk Student Forum Award.  The Michael Bozozuk Student Forum is an annual student presentation competition organized by the Ottawa Geotechnical Group (OGG). Luz presented her master’s research on the Influence of Wettability on the Recovery of Entrapped LNAPLs via Surfactant Flushing, supervised by Dr. Paul Van Geel.

OGG is the local chapter of the Canadian Geotechnical Society, and represents the geo-engineering/science professionals in the region. OGG has been organizing this annual event since 1976. The events are held in Ottawa and Kingston in alternate years. This competition has been named after Dr. Michael Bozozuk, who has been and continues to be a pillar of the Ottawa Geotechnical community.  One graduate student from each of the following universities: Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, Queen’s University, and the Royal Military College is designated to represent their Universities at the competition.  The students prepare a presentation of their graduate research which is of interest to the geotechnical and geo-environmental fields. The winner is awarded a plaque which remains at the winning University for the awarded year, a monetary prize, and is offered free registration and travel support to participate in the Annual Canadian Geotechnical Conference (to be held in Winnipeg this year). This year’s competition was held at the University of Ottawa on Wednesday March 7, 2012. Dr. Bozozuk was at the event and presented the plaque to Luz.
