Malunga awarded Schlumberger Fellowship
Roza Malunga has been awarded the prestigious Faculty for the Future Fellowship from the Schlumberger Foundation. The fellowships are awarded to talented women from developing and emerging countries that are pursuing advanced degrees in science and engineering at leading universities worldwide. As a fellow, she will receive a grant of up to $50,000 per year to support her research in improvement of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) compaction techniques using an Asphalt Multi Integrated Roller (AMIR) in the construction of roads and pavements in developing countries, using Zambia as a case study. There is evidence that the use of AMIR to replace established systems of rollers improves the performance of HMA roads while reducing construction costs, and may address substantial problems with the quality and lifespan of roads in developing countries.
Malunga is a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Abd El Halim.
