Dr. Hossain speaks with Paddy Daly of VOCM radio about roadway and highway performance in Newfoundland

Dr. Kamal Hossain, associate professor of pavement engineering discusses how the performance of roadways and highways in Newfoundland can be enhanced with Paddy Daly of VOCM radio.

Dr. Hossain has been a strong advocate for improving pavement design and paving materials selection procedures for Newfoundland for many years. In the past, he suggested to upgrade asphalt mixture selection procure to enhance pavement performance. In his interviews and in the past meetings with Newfoundland department of transportation, Dr. Hossain recommended to consider using Superpave asphalt mix design for provincial highway construction and reconstruction projects.

Dr. Hossain’s former student completed a PhD thesis where impacts of climate change on Newfoundland roads are studied. Some of these results were shared with engineers in the department. Professor Hossain hopes that the department will look into these findings and start considering mitigating climate change impacts in new highway construction projects.
