Dr. Beshir is particularly passionate about improving fire safety in low- and middle-income communities, where fire hazards are often a significant challenge. Through his research, he also seeks to contribute to improving the resilience of such communities to fires. Dr. Beshir’s interdisciplinary approach to research welcomes collaborations with researchers from different disciplines, recognizing the importance of taking a multifaceted approach to fire safety engineering.
Before joining Carleton University, Dr. Beshir worked as a fire engineer at a leading UK fire consultancy, where he worked on various projects related to residential, retail, and historical buildings. He earned his BSc from Alexandria University, Egypt and his MSc and PhD from the University of Edinburgh, where he focused on understanding compartment fire dynamics and urban fire spread in informal settlements.
Dr. Beshir’s contributions to fire safety engineering have been recognized with several awards, including the Sheldon Tieszen Award for best paper at the International Association Fire Safety Science Symposium in 2020. With his commitment to advancing fire safety engineering, Dr. Beshir is poised to make significant contributions to creating safer and more fire-resilient built environments.
