About Jane
After graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Carleton University, Jane worked as a fire engineer in Vancouver, BC for 11 years . Motivated by a desire to use her expertise and research to address the disproportionate impact of fire on vulnerable communities, she began her academic journey in 2023 with a Master’s degree before transitioning to a PhD in Building Engineering (Concentration in Fire Safety) at Carleton University. Her research focuses on the use of Virtual Reality technology to address the evacuation needs of people with disabilities in fire emergencies.
After completing her doctoral studies, Jane seeks to pursue a career in fire engineering research either in academia or at a research organization. She hopes to use the knowledge gained from her studies to address fire safety challenges in diverse contexts, both in Canada and globally.
In her free time, Jane has many hobbies, but she most enjoys hiking, any kind of sport and travel.
