Transportation Engineering Ph.D candidate Rulla Al-Haideri receives the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Canada 2024 Dr. Michel Van Aerde Memorial Transportation Scholarship. Congratulations Rulla!

Rulla attended the ITE 2024 Annual Conference in Hamilton from June 9-12, 2024, where she had the opportunity to exchange ideas and connect with numerous professionals in the transportation industry from both public and private sectors. The prestigious ITE Memorial Scholarship, awarded to one PhD student across Canada, was presented at the Annual Awards Luncheon.

The Dr. Michel Van Aerde Memorial Transportation Scholarship honours Dr. Michel Van Aerde, who passed away at 39. Dr. Van Aerde, an alumnus of the University of Waterloo with Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees, had a distinguished career in research and teaching and was recognized internationally in his field. To honor his memory, ITE Canada established a memorial scholarship. This award aims to encourage students to pursue PhD degrees in transportation engineering and inspire them to teach the next generation of engineers. The scholarship is managed by the Future Transportation Leaders Fund.

About Rulla
Rulla joined Carleton University in the fall of 2021 after spending a significant portion of her academic and professional journey at the University of Sharjah. Over 15 years, she obtained her degrees and contributed to research at both the Sharjah Research Academy and the University of Sharjah. This year, she received six scholarships, including this prestigious one. Besides her academic pursuits, she has a passion for various hobbies and interests. She enjoys exploring new places and have a remarkable track record in table tennis, boasting several medal wins. Additionally, she revels in outdoor activities such as hiking and photography, which further contribute to her joy and contentment.
