Professor Banu Örmeci Works to Keep Canada’s Waterways Swimmable

Dr. Banu Örmeci was featured on Maclean’s Magazine for her efforts to keep public urban waters swimmable as the summers get hotter in Canada.

As a Canada Research Professor in Wastewater and Public Health Engineering and the Jarislowsky Chair in Water and Health, Dr. Örmeci’s research is directly related to the protection of public health and the environment, and it aims to offer solutions to not only global problems but also to specific issues faced in Canada.

Her research program focuses on water and wastewater treatment, encompassing the removal of chemical contaminants and the disinfection of pathogens, as well as environmental monitoring of emerging pathogens and chemical pollutants. It also involves the development of new and innovative treatment technologies and the optimization of treatment processes.
