Abd El Halim Scholarship
Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs on the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to outstanding graduate students entering or continuing in a program related to Transportation Engineering.
Endowed in 2019 by family, friends and colleagues of Professor A. O. Abd El Halim who was a member of the Carleton community for 36 years. During his career Dr. Halim made critical research contributions in the areas of asset management, highway construction and transportation and infrastructure security.
In addition to establishing Carleton as a leading research institution in the area of pavement engineering, Dr. Halim also served as Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and was an integral member of Carleton’s Centre for Advanced Asphalt Research and Technology. He helped establish Carleton’s unique undergraduate program in Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Engineering as well as the university’s Master of Infrastructure Protection and International Security.
