Alireza Farrokhi

Adjunct Research Professor

Alireza Farrokhi serves as a Division Manager at the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI), where he leverages his background in civil engineering and heritage conservation to enhance the preservation of Canada’s historic sites. Holding a Master’s in Heritage Conservation and a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Alireza combines technical expertise with a deep passion for cultural heritage.

Throughout his career, Alireza has advanced heritage education and fostered interdisciplinary collaboration. His commitment to heritage education is exemplified by his work in developing courses tailored to address specific educational needs within heritage resources management.

He co-founded Alberta’s first heritage data repository, facilitating data exchange among researchers and heritage professionals. Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s Developing the Future of Libraries Project, this platform aids in the preservation and management of Alberta’s heritage sites. Additionally, Alireza has contributed to a long-term monitoring project evaluating the performance of wood preservative coating systems. His efforts have advanced the conservation of historic timber architecture and promoted preventive conservation strategies.

Prior to joining CCI, Alireza played a pivotal role in the Government of Alberta’s Heritage Division, Ministry of Culture, managing conservation projects and developing protocols for heritage site condition assessments. His professional journey includes significant contributions to high-profile projects such as the conservation efforts for the Turner Valley Gas Plant and Brooks Aqueduct National Historic Sites. At CCI, his team is currently contributing to major projects in the Parliamentary and Judicial Precincts.

As an adjunct professor at Carleton University, Alireza looks forward to leveraging his experience to contribute to the university’s vibrant intellectual life. He is eager to mentor students, collaborate with colleagues, and support initiatives aimed at promoting heritage conservation education and research.
