Biography

Dr. Beshir joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University in 2023. His research focuses on supporting fire safe and resilient built environments, reducing environmental and economic costs of construction, and promoting fire safety engineering in everyday society. Dr. Beshir is also passionate about improving fire safety in low- and middle-income communities. Prior to joining Carleton University, he worked as a fire engineer at a leading UK fire consultancy, where he worked on various projects related to residential, retail, and historical buildings. He received his PhD from the university of Edinburgh in 2022, where he focused on understanding compartment fire dynamics and urban fire spread in informal settlements, contributing to improving the resilience of such communities to fires.
