Michael Cleland, P. Eng. is a Principal at Cleland Jardine Engineering Ltd. and Director of the New Construction/Design Department. He has over 30 years of in-depth experience in designing structures for offices, laboratories, hospitals, commercial, and, residential buildings. These projects have included the construction of new facilities on green-field & brown-field sites, as well as, the renovation and horizontal/vertical expansion of complex existing facilities. He has extensive experience in the structural design and analysis of reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, wood and aluminum building systems. Working closely with owners and consultants his emphasis is placed on providing innovative structural designs driven by overall building requirements. He is actively involved in all design projects undertaken by the firm. Prior to founding the firm with Robert Jardine in 1993, Michael Cleland was an associate and senior engineer with Adjeleian Allen Rubeli Ltd. in Ottawa.

Founded in 1993 by Michael Cleland, P. Eng. and Robert Jardine, P. Eng., the company has expanded its partnership group to include André Marcoux, P. Eng. ing., Brian Johnson, P. Eng. BDS, Robert Nevin, P. Eng., Ryan Munden, P. Eng., and Matthew Jaynes, CET. These principals/partners have over 100 years of combined local construction, engineering, and construction management experience. Over the past 20 years the firm has successfully completed thousands of projects on a wide range of recreational, institutional, industrial, commercial and residential facilities with construction values ranging up to $160 million dollars. These projects have involved green field construction, repair and/or restoration, vertical & horizontal expansions, seismic retrofit, renovations/retrofit of heritage sensitive buildings, structural studies of building system capacities and life cycles, as well as, building envelope study and repairs.
