Biography:
Dr. Hajiloo joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University in July 2019. Prior to this, Dr. Hajiloo worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Queen’s University continuing his research on the performance of sustainable and durable construction materials at high temperatures. He also was the program coordinator for NSERC CREATE SERA (Sustainable Engineering in Remote Area). He received his PhD degree in Structural Engineering from the Queen’s University in 2017 where he studied how FRP reinforced concrete structures perform in fire. Dr. Hajiloo’s research on fire performance of FRP reinforced concrete structures has generated the knowledge to move towards rational fire safety design of FRP reinforced concrete structures.
Research Interests:
- Fire Safety Engineering
- Sustainable and novel construction materials at high temperatures (FRP, FRC)
- Performance of aged and corroded structures in fire
- Structural Fire Resilience
- Progressive collapse of steel structures in fire
- Steel structures in fire
- Reinforced concrete structures
- Materials combustion
- Fire dynamics
- Human behaviour in fire
- Finite Element Analysis of Structures in fire
- Strengthening of Structures
Awards:
- IIFC Best PhD Thesis Award: Dr. Hajiloo received the 2018 IIFC Best PhD Thesis Award which is awarded to a PhD thesis completed within two years after the nomination by three full IIFC members, the evaluation by the Award Panel, the presentation at a special session at the CICE conference, and the final selection by the IIFC ExCom.
- NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship: Dr. Hajiloo received a two-year postdoctoral fellowship award from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) valued $90,000 to further pursue his research interest in fire performance of sustainable and durable concrete structures. Dr. Hajiloo had to decline this award as he started his faculty position at Carleton University in 2019.
