Thesis Committee

A thesis supervisor may propose an examination board, which must be approved by the Chair of the Department. The examination board must include, as a minimum, the following examiners:

Master’s Thesis

• Thesis supervisor (or co-supervisors)
• Institute Examiner: One member from the University of Ottawa
• One additional member from the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering
• Chair of the department
• Dean of the faculty (ex officio)
• Dean of the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Affairs (ex officio)

Doctoral Thesis

• Thesis Supervisor (or co-supervisors)
• External Examiner: One member who is from outside the University, and who is a recognized scholar or authority in the subject of the thesis
• Internal examiner: One member from a department other than the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering
• Institute Examiner: One member from the University of Ottawa
• At least one thesis advisory committee member. If no thesis advisory committee has been established, one departmental member may be appointed.
• Chair of the department concerned (ex officio)
• Dean of the faculty concerned (ex officio)
• Dean of the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Affairs (or his/her deputy) (Chair of the Examining Board)
