The John Templeton Foundation is interested in your ideas for projects related to their five Core Funding Areas, which are: Science and the Big Questions, Character Virtue Development, Individual Freedom and Free Markets, Exceptional Cognitive Talent and Genius, and Genetics.

Opportunity

In the charter establishing his Foundation, the late Sir John Templeton set out his philanthropic intentions under several broad headings. These Core Funding Areas continue to guide our grantmaking as we work to find world-class researchers and project leaders to share in our pursuit of Sir John’s dynamic, contrarian, forward-looking vision.

A number of topics—including creativity, freedom, gratitude, love, and purpose—can be found under more than one Core Funding Area. The Foundation welcomes proposals that bring together these overlapping elements, especially by combining the tools and approaches of different disciplines.

Funding Available

  • Maximum amount: Small Grants ($217,400 USD or less), Large Grants ( > $217, 400 USD)
  • Maximum duration: 3 years, in rare instances the Foundation may support a project for up to 5 years

How to Apply

The first step is to create an Online Funding Inquiry. If the Foundation approves your Online Funding Inquiry, they will ask for a more detailed Full Proposal.  Full Proposals are by invitation only.
